Soldiers Give Up Their Rights So They Can Risk The

Veterans often cite the irony that those who fight and defend freedom experience it the least.

Take the case of Cpl. Steve Stoesz.

Last week Buy Windows 7 Product Key, Cpl. Stoesz spoke out about National Defence’s planned cuts to military health care. DND plans to cut 25 jobs from a special unit that deals with post-traumatic stress disorder, and soldier suicide. The good corporal is justifiably worried about the impact those cuts will have. He fears his fellow soldiers will be left without the mental health support they need.

Someone raising concerns over job cuts has been a daily news item since the budget was announced. But this is a very different affair; Stoesz could go to jail for having voiced his opinion.

Canadian citizens may be shocked to learn that the Canadian Forces do not have the same Charter Rights as the rest of us. They give up those rights when they enlist.

In particular, they do not have freedom of opinion and expression. Both the National Defence Act (S. 129) and the Queen’s Regulations and Orders (103.60)prohibit members from criticizing the Department of National Defence or the Government of Canada. It is considered Conduct to the Prejudice of Good Order and Discipline.

In most cases, such a law makes sense for the military. It is used to suppress mutiny and rebellion. As citizens, we don’t want our troops even discussing such things. If a soldier does start to speak out against his commanders or against our government Office 2011 MAC Key, we need to be able to take swift and decisive action against that person. One thing that is required of a soldier, above all else, is loyalty. Unquestioning loyalty. Absolute loyalty.

Which is why Stoesz is in trouble for criticizing his betters. He wasn’t 100% loyal to the idea of soldiers killing themselves because the books need to be balanced, and he said so.

Now he’s in even more trouble. After his first interview Office 2011 MAC Key, Cpl. Steve Stoesz was ordered to keep his trap shut. Instead, the corporal went on national TV and told everyone; not just his opinion of the cuts, but also about the gag order. This means he is open to even more charges, including Disobeying a Lawful Command — which, by the way, is punishable by up to life imprisonment.

Imagine that: you fight and are injured for your country, and you wind up in prison for the rest of your life because you said you didn’t like the budget.

Now you and I both know that he’s not likely to get that. That punishment is probably reserved for disobeying orders in combat. But nonetheless, Stoesz is in serious trouble: those are just two of many charges he could face.

Stoesz says he doesn’t care, that this is too important an issue to be quiet about. He won’t shut-up-and-soldier. He was willing to die in Afghanista,n and the war over veteran benefits is far more important.

Which, I think, gets right to the heart of the matter.

There is a subtext to national service. Those who serve agree to give up their rights because that is essential to doing the job. In exchange, they rely on every superior rank — including citizens — to see that they are treated fairly and justly, to ensure that they are cared for when they need it. They exchange rights for trust. When we betray that trust, we cannot demand to withhold rights as well.

As for the soldier, ask yourself this:

What is worse for military discipline? Steve Stoesz talking on the news? Or the Conservatives gutting mental health support to the troops?

Author I Dealt With Grief Through Writing And Dra

I’ve always had a really bad memory. So when my mother got Alzheimer’s disease, I knew that I had to record what was happening to her and to our family. I wanted to be able to look back over my notes and remember all the moments of craziness, beauty, and tragedy- and not lose any of them.

Mom started showing symptoms of Alzheimer’s in 1996, when she was only 52. Our family ran through all the possible explanations-job loss, depression, menopause-until finally we realized it must be something neurological. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 1998. For the next six years my father cared for her, eventually with the help of hired caregivers. Mom’s sisters, Debbie and Sukey, and my sister Hannah and I helped as much as we could.

I lived in Vancouver and my parents lived in Fredericton, New Brunswick. I visited two or three times a year replica watches, and took notes and drew pictures the whole time I was there.

Eventually those notes and sketches became Tangles.

My mother and I in 1978 replica watches, at our rented farmhouse in Maine. This is how I thought of her before she got sick: powerful, protective, joyous.

My mother and I sometime around 2002, at her home in Fredericton, New Brunswick. She’s in the middle stages of Alzheimer’s, confused and scared. This disease is about so much more than losing your memory: it makes it hard to navigate space, to understand or trust the world around you.

My mother always had a very big heart, which was a mixed blessing for us kids when we were little – she’d befriend people we found difficult or embarrassing. But this was a key part of her that endured throughout her illness, this open-heartedness.

I first realized something was wrong with my mother in the summer of 1998, when I came to visit from Vancouver. There were lots of small strange things that added up to something seriously wrong.

My mother was very passionate about justice, and this endured even as she lost her ability to remember details and to communicate her thoughts. My father was often the only one who could figure out what she was trying to say, as they had so many years of shared conversations.

My parents were both intellectuals with a strong love and respect for language that they passed on to their children. As her illness progressed, my mother lost so much of her language – written, then spoken, then understood. Meanwhile, my father sometimes coped by zoning out. Napkins came in handy for recording bizarre exchanges like these that I never would have remembered otherwise.

My mother was obsessed with her cat, and this intensified as her illness progressed. Lucy was an aloof, somewhat skittish cat replica watches, but my mother felt very connected to her. In fact, she seemed to recognize her at times when she didn’t recognize me.

I kept a journal and sketchbook close by during my mother’s illness. These are the last pictures I drew of her, the night before she died. My aunt Sukey and I stayed with her at the nursing home that night.

Although I think about my mother every day, I rarely dream about her. This dream has stayed with me as a potent image of what my mother meant to me.

Transformation — First in Yourself, Then the Worl

Coming from a teaching background, I am always brought back to thinking about my first graders. I started thinking about the idea of when you are little, you transform by the minute. Your brain is a sponge ready to take in the world. One day, you are an astronaut, the next day you are a ballerina; one day you hate Rosie with the bow in her hair, the other day you are chasing her around the playground because you are in love with her.

Why does the transformation process become so hard? As we get older, I think it becomes harder to open ourselves up to change. I am coming from a place of experience by the fact that I was “living blindly,” resenting some of the choices I made with the people I surrounded myself with, and I didn’t even think about the option to transform into the best version of myself. I feel that sometimes, we feel that we are set the way we are, and it is easier to accept this, then to start to evaluate all that needs to be changed within ourselves. There is a big issue here, as there are so many changes that need to be focused on around the world. Yet how we can even recognize these changes if we are so focused on ignoring the most important transformation within ourselves?

Facilitated Tattoo Grips, authentic, genuine relationship building for a bigger picture idea, as well as strategic content delivery, can help not only change an individual, but as a group, change the world.

I started to analyze the idea of “transformation” to create change and realized that two organizations around me were using this concept as their foundation. One nonprofit I have recently worked with Top Tattoo Guns, Team Rubicon U.S.A. “unites the skills and experiences of military veterans with medical professionals to deploy vanguard teams that bridge the gap in disaster response and since its creation in January 2010 has impacted not only thousands of lives — in Haiti, Chile Dragonhawk Tattoo Ink, Burma, Pakistan, Sudan, and here at home, in Vermont, Maryland, Missouri, and Alabama, it also provides a renewed sense of purpose for military veterans returning home after ten years of war.” This organization, while rebuilding and transforming post-war communities, also helps rebuild these individuals trust in each other and in themselves.

Another very unique organization “Fonderie 47 is on a mission to turn weapons of mass destruction into implements of mass distraction. Transforming confiscated AK-47 rifles from the Democratic Republic of Congo into ornate accessories that belie their violent history, refashioning them with gold into rings, earrings, and cuff links, Fonderie 47 has successfully removed more than 12,000 assault rifles from the war-ravaged nation.”

If you believe that it is too hard to really look deeper into the internal war you are having within yourself about whether or not this year is the year for change, look at these organizations that are doing just that; they are taking something that was at once a menacing or destructive thought, idea or object and turning it into something beautiful.

Decide if you are ready to make the transformation in yourself in 2012. If you are, you have no idea about all the changes you can make around you in 2013.

Netflix Says It’s Back to Boom Times. Wall Street

Netflix says 2012 is going to be great. Wall Street remembers 2011.

And that’s the explanation for last night’s stock swoon, which followed a solid-to-good Q1 earnings report from the video company.

Specifically, Wall Street doesn’t believe Reed Hastings’s prediction that his company will add seven million customers to its U.S. streaming-video service this year. For a couple reasons:

That’s the same growth rate that Netflix had back in 2010. But back then, Netflix was growing from a much smaller base. At least as important: Back then, it had the subscription streaming-video business more or less to itself. Now it is facing competition from Hulu, Amazon and Comcast Tattoo Machine Equipment, with more — like a Redbox/Verizon service — on the way.
Hastings says Netflix can pull this off Tattoo Gun Needles, even though next quarter’s growth will be much slower than Wall Street was expecting. Netflix has a complicated explanation for this, involving “seasonality” and the size of the company’s subscriber base. Short version: Trust us, it will all work out in the end.

These are the kind of arguments that Hastings used to win, because Netflix was one of tech and media’s most amazing growth stories, and Hastings had the aura of a man who could see around corners.

But 2011 changed all that. Now Buy Tattoo Gun, if Hastings tells Wall Street that he can see the future, he’s going to get plenty of pushback. Yesterday’s conference call was dominated by questions about his 2012 growth predictions. The first one set the tone: “Why are you so confident?”

That one will take about eight months to explain. Let’s see if investors are that patient.

Playing a quick game of automotive-animal word association, you’d probably link Lamborghini to a bull. Between the emblem on the hood, supercars named after famous fighting bulls and the farming roots of the company, the association is well established. Iulian Bumbu thinks otherwise. The aspiring Romanian car designer, who interned at Alfa Romeo’s styling department after earning his master’s in car design in Milan, created the design study you see here.

Called the Insecta, the radical concept’s design elements were borrowed from bugs instead of bovines.
Combining organic shapes with Lamborghini’s trademark geometric angles, the Insecta concept integrates themes culled from the body armour observed on certain species of insects. With its dimensions and powertrain borrowed from the Gallardo Tattoo Supplies, the Insecta would pack a sting as sharp as its buzz Tattoo Supplies, and it could make a compelling successor to the current LP560-4 – but Lambo would have to drop a load of bull first.
